The first Premium Live Event of the ESPN Era kicks off tomorrow, with Wrestlepalooza taking place in Indianapolis.
No, you are not reading that wrong; the event is actually called Wrestlepalooza. Initially, I thought it was a wrestling convention, but to be fair, I had been dealing with some pretty heavy stuff at home and had missed a few episodes of Raw and SmackDown.
Anyway, now that I am back into the swing of things and am writing again, I’m pretty keen to watch this.
Let’s have a look at the matches taking place:
Wrestlepalooza
John Cena vs Brock Lesnar
The John Cena farewell tour is coming to an end, but there are still a few matches left before Cena rides off into the sunset. Brock Lesnar and Cena have a long history together, with Cena originally naming his finisher the ‘FU’ in response to Lesnar’s ‘F5’ (Oh, it’s true, it’s damn true).
Steve and Larson from the Friendo YouTube channel think that since this is Cena’s farewell tour, he will get the win over Lesnar here. I agree with them; I don’t believe so. They will do a series of matches, like they have done in the past, but I could be wrong. It will be interesting to see how Seth Rollins and his band of merry men fit into this match after Lesnar said he wanted to speak with Heyman on SmackDown.
Winner: John Cena
The Usos vs The Vision
Speaking of Rollins’ merry men, Bronson Reed and Bron Breaker will take on The Usos. Many people will be watching this match closely, as WWE has been slowly planting seeds for Jey Uso to turn heel. Personally, I’m not sure it is a good idea to turn Jey heel. The crowd love him, and I will admit that when I was having a hard time earlier this year, watching Jey come and Yeet with the crowd always put a smile on my face.
But, if he turns heel, then The Vision will get the win. Plus, I have to cheer a little bit for the Aussie wrestler in the match as well. I also am expecting to see LA Knight interfere here, since he and Jey have had some issues.
Winners: The Vision
CM Punk & AJ Lee vs Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch
This match is interesting because on one side, you have the World Heavyweight Champion and the women’s Intercontinental Champion going up against the ‘Best in the World’ and his wife, who hasn’t wrestled in 10 years. At first thought, I wouldn’t want to make my champions look weak and lose. However, there would be a way for the Rollins and Lynch to look strong even in defeat.
It will be good to see how Lee goes in her first match back. I think she should be good because she is in fantastic shape, and she is in there with world-class wrestlers as well.
Winners: CM Punk and AJ Lee
Cody Rhodes vs Drew McIntyre
I’m not sure what other people think, but I would love to see Drew McIntyre with a title again at some stage. However, I don’t think it will happen here. McIntyre won’t take the title from Rhodes, especially with how recently he regained the belt. I am expecting to see some carnage here.
Could this match be the end of the Rhodes McIntyre feud? As we head into the back end of the year, it will be good to see where the company goes with these two.
Winner: Cody Rhodes
Iyo Sky vs Stephanie Vaquer
This should be a cracking match. Both women are exciting to watch and deserve to be in this spot. Of course, Vaquer won a battle royal at the Evolution PLE and was scheduled to face the then-champion Naomi at Clash in Paris, but that match was scrapped from the card.
Steve and Larson from the Friendo YouTube channel believe that since we’re heading into the part of the year where they start setting up feuds for Wrestlemania, the WWE will want to put the belt on some of their heavy hitters in the women’s division. Sky has been there and done that before. What I don’t want to see is Vaquer get wasted on the main roster. She is talented, and I would like to see her win the title and lead the women’s division to Wrestlemania.
